Thinking about getting waxed?

Here’s what you need to know about waxing...

Thinking about getting waxed? Here’s what you need to know.

The hair growth needs to be only ¼ inch for your body and 1/8 inch for your eyebrows.

Waxing removes the hair by the root, you should not have hair for about 3 weeks on average.

For people with dry skin, moisturize your skin daily. If you don’t moisturize your skin, your body hair will be too dry and your hair will most likely break when you wax, which makes some hair get left behind, and they end up growing faster than the rest.

  • Ingrown hairs grow under the skin surface. If you have them, you should exfoliate the skin and use ingrown hair treatments to ensure they don’t come back after the waxing service, or anytime after.
  • It is recommended to schedule every 5 weeks for body wax and every 3 weeks for eyebrows.  After 3 weeks your eyebrow design will be gone and we will have to find it again.
  • If you use Retinol or Retin-A, you can’t wax for 2 weeks. It can damage your skin and remove the outer layer, which can be quite painful.

If you get a facial you can’t wax for few days.

  • If you get waxed on a regular basis, it will make your hair finer and cause the hair to grow slower, which causes less pain each visit.
  • Taking an anti-inflammatory 30 minutes before wax appointment can help minimize pain and swelling.
  • After waxing, your pores are open and your skin is slightly vulnerable.

The area where you wax should be cleaned with post-wax lotions/gel allowing the skin to breathe.

Some places apply makeup after waxing to cover up redness. That’s a no-no! It blocks the open pores, which can lead to skin irritation.

Don’t ever go to a place that double dip the wax stick.

Unfortunately, many waxing technicians double dip out of convenience or to control costs.

Everyone has bacteria that lives on their skin and in some cases, the bacteria can be harmful to those people with weak immune systems.

some waxing clients can slightly bleed  during their treatments and double dipping will certainly contaminate the wax. Hot wax pots are perfect breeding grounds for germs and bacteria.

To make sure that your next waxing appoint is germ-free you should:

Ask  the place about their double-dipping policy.

Make sure that the technician wears gloves during your wax treatment.

Make sure your wax technician uses a new application stick each time the wax is used.

A new roll of waxing paper should be laid before each treatment.
