Happy Summer Hair

Sun-kissed days spent outdoors are just one of our favorite things as spring breathes new life into the world and slowly turns into summer. The benefits of prepping your hair for the summer won’t go unnoticed! You’ll experience nourishmed locks, long-lasting shine, and rejuvenation of your hair and scalp.

Working an oil treatment into your weekly to-do list is a great way to get noticeable results. Oil treatments can be used  many different ways. As a pre-shampoo: Apply to dry or damp hair and scalp. Leave on for 15-60 minutes (I go longer when I have the time available); rinse thoroughly. Shampoo and condition as usual. Another way is to apply the oil to damp hair and scalp, and place a warm, moist towel around your head. Leave for 30-60 minutes. Shampoo, condition, and style. Not only do these treatments nourish your hair, but for those of us fighting through frizz, they act as an anti-frizz leave-in. Add a small amount of the oil to hands and apply to mid-shaft and ends. The result: zero frizz and healthy, smooth shine! Nourishing Hair Oil by Colure and our custom-mix of  oils for a specialty deep treatment in-salon are two great nourishing oil treatment options for maintaining your hair from the beginning to end of summer, whether in home or in the salon!

We use SPF on our skin, but what about our hair? Just as you protect your skin from the sun’s damaging UV rays, it’s important to give the same attention to your hair. AG Cosmetics  BB Cream is an amazing style prep that also blocks harmful UVA/UVB rays.

The sun is a moisture-draining monster! Our warm weather playgrounds may be loaded with salt water, chlorine, and other environmental factors that  suck the moisture right out of our hair, but there’s no need to suffer! The power of preparation and proper product application can help maintain your hair’s health. Hair is like a sponge and soaks up whatever is in the water, so before and after you take a dip, rinse your hair. Even better would be to rinse and leave-in some conditioner before you swim, and use a chlorine-neutralizing shampoo after. John Masters Organics Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner  is great for post-swim.

Even though we’re still weeks away from the damaging effects of summer heat, we can get a jump start on the health of our hair, PLUS heal some of winter’s damage and drying effect. Start by getting a trim. Follow that with a hydrating mask once a week. Colure also offers a great line of hydrating products: Reparative Spray Plus, Regenerative Hair Mask (can be used solo), and Leave-in Spray Plus.

If you’re planning color treatments, try to schedule those before the heat temperature rises to prevent further damage. If it cannot be scheduled before summer heat hits, be sure to book a healing treatment or service in with your appointment. Ask your stylist for a scalp massage during your service. Not only does this help with blood flow and circulation which can lead to a healthier scalp and promote hair growth, but it’s very relaxing and can truly enhance your experience in the salon.

Whichever treatment you choose, your stylist at Avital Beauty Lounge can help you find the right products for you to take home, so you can protect the investment you’ve made in the health of your hair.
